We are introducing a new feature – CrossFit Fairport’s Spotlight Athlete! Each month we will put a member in the spotlight and get to know them a little better. Our very first Spotlight Athlete features Bridget Parrone! Bridget has been with us for six years now, joining shortly after we moved to the new location. She is always very friendly and helpful, being the first to volunteer when needed (she currently holds the record for making and decorating the most holiday stockings for our members). Below, she answers some questions to help us get to know her a little better!

Bridget Parrone

How long have you been CrossFitting?

It will be 6 years in June! Wow, time flies when you’re having fun!

How did you start?

I had originally bought a Groupon and was almost too chicken to attend. On the last day before it expired, I talked myself into going and haven’t looked back!

What’s your favorite movement or workout?

Back squat is my favorite lift, so any workout with some sort of squatting movement! Favorite workout would probably have to be the dreaded Fran! Quick workout to really push yourself.

What’s your least favorite movement or workout?

Snatch, especially squat snatch. Definitely a weakness of mine.

What do you love about it?

The community and camaraderie. I’ve made the best of friends and it really is like a big family. At times, dysfunctional (in the best way) but everyone is extremely supportive and motivating. You are continuously forced out of your comfort zone and pushed to the limits, and it’s an incredible sense of accomplishment when you’re done and a real boost of confidence! Every day is something new and fun and you’re always learning.

What can you do today that you couldn’t do before CrossFit, or what do you do better?

Everything? The list is endless, but before CrossFit I couldn’t do a single pull-up or a proper push up. Now, I am more fit than ever, my endurance is better, I’m more conscious of the food I’m fueling my body with. All of these things make me much more confident and outgoing, even outside of the gym.

What is your occupation?

I am an Enterprise Data Management Program Manager at Paychex. Essentially, my role is to increase our data maturity…it’s complicated.

Does CrossFit ever make your job easier?

Well, I can lift my own suitcase into the overhead compartment when traveling. For the most part I have a sedentary job, however I am much more aware of how bad sitting all day is and make more of an effort to get up and walk when I can. I also have a sit/stand station that helps!

Do you have other hobbies or activities?

I spend most of my ‘free’ time at the gym. But I do play in the Kickball League of Rochester with a group of friends. I try to travel as much as possible, preferably to warmer places. And enjoy checking out all the new restaurants and breweries/wineries around town! It’s all about balance.

Note from Gina: Since gathering this information from Bridget, she achieved her first bar muscle-up! This is one of the more advanced CrossFit/Gymnastics moves and shows what great dedication and athletic ability Bridget has! Way to go – hard work pays off, Bridget!
